GLASS & MIRROR MOSAICS
one of my favorite techniques. glass and mirror mosaics begin with plain glass that is painted on the reverse side. This technique, known as Reverse Glass Painting requires applying colors in reverse order - the top colors go on first, and the background color is applied last (opposite to standard painting). Once complete, the glass is flipped and the image is viewed through the glass. I enjoy experimenting with special pigments that shift colors depending on the angle of the light - for example the same color may appear as white, violet or green, depending on the lighting conditions.
For my golden pieces, I create my own golden mirror by gilding the glass with 24 ct leaf gold (a personal preference of mine).
Afterward. the glass is cut into tiny pieces, all by hand - no power tools. These pieces are then carefully assembled to form the mosaic.
