STRAW MARQUETRY

Straw marquetry is a technique similar to traditional wood marquetry, but instead of wood veneers, I use straws. Before gluing, each straw has to be carefully split open and straightened out—a time-consuming, fully handmade process that only requires a few simple tools. Straws contain natural silica, which creates a beautiful, natural shine and gives the piece a 3D effect when light strikes it. It’s a humble material—nothing fancy—but with truly stunning results!
